Full-time / suitable as part-time employment
The platform MaterialDigital (PMD) is a BMBF-funded initiative for
the digitization of materials research with a focus on the use of
small and medium-sized companies. The joint project is building a
prototypical digital infrastructure for research data for the entire
German materials research community in industry and academia in order
to systematize and standardize the handling of materials data. In
addition to the Bundesanstalt for Materialforschung und -prüfung
(BAM), five other institutes in Germany and associated partners are
involved in the consortium.
The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und ‑prüfung
(BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is
to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and
testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to
improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research
that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus
areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and
analytical sciences.
We are looking for talented people to join us.
Your responsibilities include:
The position gives you a unique chance to work at the interface
between the development of emerging software concepts and
ground-breaking materials research, but also at the interface between
academia and industry. Your task will be the creation, implementation,
and application of workflows in a digital development environment that
allows:
-
Innovative materials simulations that reproducibly connect the raw
data with the prediction of materials performance in terms of
numbers, graphs and reports
-
Multiscale materials simulations starting from the atomic scale and
aiming at the design of structural and functional materials
-
Integration of machine learning models and their direct coupling
with simulation codes
-
Digital representation of experimental processes and the processing
of digital experimental data
-
Semantic description of digital processes both in simulations and
experiment
-
Cooperation with stakeholders from the academic and industrial
environment of the Material Digital project
Your qualifications:
-
Successfully completed scientific university degree and
preferentially a good doctorate in the field of physics, chemistry,
informatics, materials science, engineering or a comparable field
-
Strong experience in the area of ab initio, atomistic or scale
bridging simulations on materials engineering or materials science
-
Publications on the above-mentioned areas in scientific journals
-
Very good knowledge of a programming language (e.g. Python,C++)
- Experience in (research) data management and machine learning
- Fluent spoken and written language skills
-
Competence in scientific work at the interface between experiment
and theory is advantageous
-
Good communication and information skills, initiative/readiness and
ability to work, willingness and ability to make decisions, ability
to work in a team and willingness to cooperate as well as
