The Max-Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.

The Institute currently offers

PhD and Postdoc positions

to scientists/scholars with a profound interest in aesthetics. Proposals are specifically welcome for the domains of language, literature, and visual aesthetics.

Positions are awarded for a period of three (PhDs) or two years (Postdocs); all contracts can be extended by one additional year.

Applicants should hold an MA (for PhDs) or a PhD degree (for Postdocs), have an excellent record in their respective disciplines (psychology, literary studies, linguistics, computational linguistics, or neuroscience), be interested in cooperations across disciplines and prepared to work in a multi-language environment.

Applicants should submit a 5-10 pages prospectus of their research project, or at least a sketch of ideas, along with two reading samples.

Salaries of Postdocs are determined following the salary scale E 13 (German TVÖD/Bund); substantial social benefits come on top of the salary. PhD candidates receive a salary of 75 % of E13.
