7 PhD positions in the new BTU-BAM Graduate School "Trustworthy Hydrogen”

The aim of the "Trustworthy Hydrogen" Graduate School is to train the next generation of interdisciplinary hydrogen scientists. Working in science, industry and the public sector, the graduates will be well-equipped to play a leading role in establishing the hydrogen economy.

In this first application round, PhD students can apply for the following research topics:

  • Efficient PMC qualification strategies for next generation H2-pressure vessels (PhD Topic 1)
  • Novel materials and coatings for the detection of hydrogen and hydrocarbons (PhD Topic 2)
  • Evaluation of the influence of lubricants on pre-ignition of hydrogen for engine relevant conditions (PhD Topic 3)
  • Digital sensor twin for hydrogen applications (PhD Topic 4)
  • Influence of manufacturing process-related residual stresses in wound composite material on the operational safety of H2 pressure vessels (PhD Topic 5)
  • Influence of manufacturing-induced imperfections on the operational safety of composite H2 pressure vessels (PhD topic 6)
  • Influence of fires on tanks for cryogenic fluids (PhD Topic 7)
The core of the Graduate School is a unique hydrogen-focused qualification programme, which provides all PhD students with a holistic understanding of the hydrogen value chain and the regulatory framework conditions. Through a wide range of soft-skill courses, the PhD students will also be optimally prepared for their future professional career regarding their personal skills.

The Graduate School is embedded into the large international network of BAM and BTU, which enables PhD students to undertake research stays in industry, science and the public sector. 

The remuneration of the PhD students corresponds to the common salary groups at BTU (TV-L E13) and BAM (TVöD E13). The working language of the Graduate School is English.  

Applicants are expected to have an above-average Master's degree in a relevant discipline (materials science/physics/chemistry/engineering), a high level of interest in hydrogen topics, a very good command of English, the ability to work in a team and enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary work of the Graduate School.
