PHD POSITIONS IN IMAGE
PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS
Applications are invited for two full-time PhD research positions at the Institute of Biomedical Image Analysis,
Department of Biomedical Computer Science and Mechatronics, UMIT – Private Universtity for Health Sciences,
Medical Informatics and Technology, Hall in Tyrol, Austria. The positions are available to be filled immediately and
appointment is offered for three years. The salary amounts to 14 × € 2.550,- (€ 35.700,- per year).
The Institute of Biomedical Image Analysis is a research group focusing on methods of image processing and
application in different domains like medical diagnosis and therapy planning as well as image based industrial quality
control. Methodological key aspects are image enhancement and artifact reconstruction, statistical modelling of
biological structures, and machine learning. See
www.umit.at/technik for more information.
Positions in detail
In particular two different PhD topics are available see
www.umit.at/stellenangebote for more details:
1) Image based modelling of the vestibular organ and it‘s interindividual variations as basis for implant design.
This topic is part of a research project in cooperation with medical and industrial partners and is based on
methods and results achieved in previous work of the group.
2) Methods for image enhancement and analysis: Theoretical principles and applications in computer vision and
quality assurance. This topic is part of the basic research focus of the group and is based on previous work as
well as on current cooperations with industrial partners.
Qualifications
Applicants for both positions should have a recent Master degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely
related area. Any experience in image processing, programming in C/C++ will be an asset. In particular for position
1) familiarity with ITK/VTK, and additional experience in biomedical computer science/engineering, statistical
modelling, or machine learning are useful. For position 2) experience in regularization/PDE approaches for
image enhancement and restoration is advantageous.
Deadline
