Location Enschede Function types PhD positions Scientific fields Engineering Hours 40.0 hours per week Salary € 2191 - € 2801 Education University Graduate Job number 888519 About employer University of Twente (UT)
The Departments of Thermal and Fluid Engineering (TFE) and Design, Production and Management (DPM) are looking for two highly motivated and capable PhD candidates in computational mechanics.
You will be working on developing numerical models for particulate agglomeration processes. This will require the development and calibration of new multi-scale models for fine powders and their application to industrial processes in additive manufacturing, pharmaceutics, process and mechanical engineering, geotechnics, etc. The project focuses on two modern and industrially relevant applications, Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and tableting. Challenging and novel aspects of this research are the process dynamics as well as coupling between the particle, agglomerate and bulk scales. For this, you will develop interfaces between two state-of-the-art open-source software packages, MercuryDPM and oomph-lib. The resulting numerical and analytical methods will be capable of quantitative predictions for a wide range of situations, helping to understand the fundamentals of agglomeration, but also allowing us to optimise such processes in the future.
If you are interested in pursuing cutting-edge research in a stimulating and dynamic international working environment, have very good programming skills, or have practical experience in agglomeration processes, please contact us.
The start of the project is planned early 2017. Candidates that expect to graduate at the master level in relevant fields around the start of this project are also invited to apply.
Please send your application with a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter, a transcript (list with grades of courses attended), references and, if applicable, a list of publications before February 28th 2017 through the link below.
