A PhD position is available in the Department of Biology. The appointment has a duration of 3 years with the possibility of until 1 year extension with 25% teaching duties in agreement with the department.
Information about the department
The strategy of the Department of Biology is to understand biological processes of life for sustainable use and conservation of the environment.
The Department has an interdisciplinary approach to education and research that is deeply rooted in environmental and evolutionary biology as
important links between the different sub-disciplines (cell- and molecular biology, systems biology, physiology, ethology, ecology, population
genetics, marine sciences, aquaculture, biodiversity and environmental toxicology). For more information about the department go to:
The theme of the PhD research is development of novel, quantiative tools to detect physical forces and their application to understand processes
taking place in plant cells during development and interaction with the environment. This project will involve a combination of molecular biology
approaches with development of imaging methods (using atomic force, confocal, electron microscopy and live cell imaging). In general the research
group has a strong interest in plant cell wall signaling and interactions between the plant and the environment. More detailed information about
the host group and ongoing research activities can be found here:
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic person with a thorough understanding and knowledge in at least one of the following areas: plant cell biology, biophysics, plant
molecular biology, plant responses to biotic or abiotic stress.
The applicant must have an MSc (or equivalent) in Biology or Physics and a documented strong background in molecular biological methods. Experience with modern
imaging and microscopy methods including confocal / atomic force / electron / brillouin microscopy will be considered an advantage.
The successful candidate should also be creative, with a strong ability to work problem oriented. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest
in learning and working in teams.
The regulations for PhD programmes at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for
