The Laboratory of Experimental Anaesthesiology and Pain Research is seeking applications for a Part time for 25 hours/week

1 PhD Position (f/m/d)
Identification of pain modulating toxins out of
natural venoms

to be employed under a 3 year (WissZeitVG) contract.

Current analgesics often only provide partial pain relief. Natural toxins are powerful tools for the identification of novel mechanisms. In a DFG-funded project, we will test natural toxins for pain-modulating activity. Central to our work is an innovative automated microscopy screening approach. Active toxins will be analyzed extensively for their cellular mechanisms as well as their action in behavioral experiments.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • High Content Screening Microscopy-based analysis of venoms and toxins
  • Pharmacological analysis of cellular mechanisms
  • Animal behaviour experiments on pain models
Minimum qualifications:
  • Outstanding motivation
  • Winning Master Thesis in the Field of Life Sciences
  • Profound knowledge and experience in at least two of the following topics:
    • Behavioural pain research
    • Neurosciences
    • Quantitative image analysis
Following DFG rules your salary will be based on TV-L.
