The University of Konstanz, with its "Institutional Strategy to promote
Top-Level Research", has been receiving continuous funding
since 2007 within the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the
German Federal and State Governments.
The Limnological Institute at the University of Konstanz is one of the leading institutes
in lake research in Europe that offers excellent research facilities and an
open collaborative atmosphere. We invite applications for a
PhD-Position in Ecological Modelling in Lakes
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L / 75%)
as part of the Research Training Group (RTG). The successful candidate will play a
central role in the project:
A4 - Spatiotemporal changes in phytoplankton and
macrophyte distribution and community structure along trophic gradients.
The project utilizes numerical modelling in combination with existing long-term
data sets and paleo-limnologic data to investigate consequences of nutrient
gradients and trophic change for the spatial distribution and abundance of phytoplankton
in Lower Lake Constance.
Your profile:
The successful candidate holds a Master degree in lake physics, oceanography,
environmental engineering, bioinformatics or mathematics. Expertise in the field
of numerical modelling of lake ecosystems, experience with hydrodynamic or
ecological models, and experience in the analysis of large data sets (time series
analysis), e.g. with Matlab or R are assets. Further requirements include the
capability of conducting independent research, scientific writing, and good
communication skills in English. Proficiency in German is not required but
preferable.
We offer:
The appointment is for 36 months.
