Earth Sciences at TU Darmstadt has an opening for a
Ph.D. student –

starting presumely Oct 1st, 2021 for a duration of 3 years. The position carries a
salary of half a position for one year and a full position for two years.
The ceramics group at Darmstadt is one of the world-wide leading groups on
lead-free piezoceramics. The industrial interest centers now on high-power
applications like ultrasound welding and cleaning. For an international collaboration
we will employ recent innovations (Science, 372, 961-964 (2021) and
Adv. Mat., accepted (2021)) and patent applications.
Own development and production of lead-free piezoceramics by solid state
synthesis, use of industrial materials from partners, characterization and
quantification of piezoelectric and mechanical properties.
Excellent university degree (Master) in Materials Science, Physics or
Strong interest in scientific research and above-average motivation to
manage the PhD project combined with a strong desire for international
collaboration and ability to work in a team
Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
Strong academic background in one or more of the following subjects: solid
state synthesis, ferroelectrics, crystallography
Demonstrated ability for independent scientific research
