The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing is a senior scientific and technical federal institute which is based in Berlin. As a departmental research institute of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, we conduct research and testing, and provide counselling on how to protect people, the environment and material goods. The focus on our activities in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry is the technical safety of products and processes.

Your responsibilities include:
With your project, you will contribute to the European training network MUMMERING (MUltiscale, Multi-modal and Multidimensional imaging for EngineeRING). The project is aimed at implementing an iterative algorithm for 3D computed tomography reconstructions. In particular:
transfer of the algorithm to a 3D approach
generating a user-friendly robust program
experimental evaluation by tomographic investigations
critical assessment of reconstructed data
testing existing software and benchmarking
publication of results in scientific journals and at international conferences and workshops
university degree in physics, computer engineering, or materials science (Master/Diploma)
fundamental knowledge of computed tomography and X-ray techniques
experiences in conception and evaluation of the above mentioned techniques
excellent command of one or more relevant programming languages
experiences in imaging techniques, image processing, and reconstruction algorithms. Ability to transfer complex problems of X-ray physics into programs
excellent command of written and spoken English; German would be beneficially
According to the guidelines of the European training network we can only consider applications of candidates who are in the first four years of their research career and who have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies etc.) in Germany for less than 12 months during the last 3 years.
