Manager of the University’s Computer Centre
(IT Service Centre)
as a civil service position, grade A 16, will be filled.
The IT Service Centre belongs to the central facilities of the University of Bayreuth. It performs the tasks of a university scientific computer centre and also provides services for teaching, science, and university administration. Accordingly, the range of services extends from issues of IT security and the operation of high-performance computers to technical support for teaching.
The manager of the IT Service Centre leads a team of currently 55 employees and assumes both central and coordinating tasks.
Your key responsibilities:
- Independent technical and administrative management of the IT service centre
- Conception and control of the use of the positions, material resources, facilities and rooms assigned to the IT Service Centre (budget and personnel responsibility, as well as operational capability monitoring and maintenance of the computer centre buildings, commissioning and acceptance of maintenance and repair work)
- Regulation of the internal organization of the IT Service Centre as well as personnel development
- Strategic orientation of the IT Service Centre for the future, also in consideration of IT security
- Deputy Director and Managing Director of the Research Centre for Scientific Computing (Bayreuth Centre for High Performance Computing [BZ HPC])
- Planning and coordination of large-scale equipment applications in the IT context at the University of Bayreuth as well as expert opinions for the German Research Foundation (DFG) on large-scale equipment applications in cooperation with the applying scientists
At the same time, the manager of the ITS is jointly responsible for the design and future orientation of the University of Bayreuth in the following areas:
- Further development of the service portfolio of the IT Service Centre, including conceptual design and structuring of information and training offerings, as well as management of external service providers
- Elaboration and further development of the IT strategy of the University of Bayreuth, participation and active involvement in the digitization strategy of the University of Bayreuth, also in the context of research data management
- Participation in university committees, cooperation with other computer centres and service providers, and representation of the university in non-university bodies
Your profile:
- Completed university studies with doctorate, preferably in the subject of computer science or an economic or natural science subject related to the fields of computer science, computer processing, server structures, or information security
- Several years of, ideally relevant, professional experience in a management function with budget and personnel responsibility
- In-depth knowledge of data network, IT and application systems as well as information security
- Experience as a project manager, ideally for several years, and in the IT environment
- Interest and willingness to shape and further develop the IT structure for the areas of research, teaching, and administration at the University of Bayreuth
- Strong leadership skills and experience
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- High level of communication, teamwork, and cooperation skills
- High resilience and readiness for action
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills
If the requirements under civil service law are met, the employee will be hired as a civil servant; a transfer up to A 16 is possible. If appointed as a civil servant for the first time, the employee must not have exceeded the age of 45. If the requirements under civil service law are not met, employment in an employment relationship in accordance with TV-L may also be considered.
