Permanent position.
Promoting multilingualism is the goal of the internationally oriented European University Viadrina. For this reason, foreign language training is an integral part of the degree programmes. The Language Centre, which is an institution answerable to the President, responsible for the planning and implementation of foreign language training during the course of studies. Language training ranges from the acquisition of basic knowledge to training in academic communication. In modern foreign languages and in German as a foreign language (DaF), the programme is based on the UNIcert® certificate of foreign language competence. The Language Centre operates a self-study centre and develops blended learning approaches in various languages. DSH and study preparation courses (e. g. for the Viadrina College Programme, for international high school graduates without formal university entry qualifications in Germany) are also offered.
Your tasks will include:
- The strategic and operational management and administration of the Language Centre, including personnel responsibility for staff (permanent staff, lecturers, assistants)
- Management of funds and fulfilment of the obligations regarding occupational health and safety in the area of the Language Centre (§ 13, section 2 ArbSchG) as a reliable and competent person
- The strategic and conceptual development of the Language Centre in cooperation with the faculties and other institutions of the Viadrina
- The didactic development of the Language Centre, especially in the context of digitalization
- The international networking and support of the international orientation of the Viadrina
- The cooperation with Viadrina sprachen GmbH, a Limited Company closely associated with the University and Language Centre
- The planning and organisation of the entire teaching and learning programme in the field of languages, for students of all faculties and in connection with teaching and research, providing didactic advice for the University′s teaching staff on foreign language acquisition, including media didactics an pedagogy of the higher education context
- The conception and organisation of further training for the teaching staff of the Language Centre
- You will also be required to teach courses of your own within Language Centre programme, equivalent to 4 hours per week in term time („4 LVS“)
Your profile includes:
- Relevant scientific university education; doctorate or comparable qualification desired
- Proven experience in public sector leadership roles with the ability to motivate staff and team leadership
- Several years of proven experience in modern foreign language didactics as well as in the development, implementation and evaluation of curricula, learning and teaching materials and their further development with a special focus on digital and hybrid teaching methods
- Extensive knowledge of German as a foreign language and language tests for university admission
- Independent, proactive and strategic action with outstanding organisational competence, a high degree of resilience and flexibility
- International work experience and experience in national and international networking
- Intercultural action competence and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of the budgetary and personnel law of public institutions and in the relevant area of occupational health and safety (teaching institutions)
- Language skills: German and English (at least one of them CEF C1 and C2), one other foreign language (CEF B2, preferably Polish, French)
