School of Engineering is an international unit with nearly 70 talented professors and 3400 full-time students. Currently, the department
of Civil Engineering has 19 professors together with lecturers, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students, and technical staff. In
total, the number of personnel is about 110.
Aalto University, School of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for
Lecturer in Structural Engineering
The Aalto lecturer career system promotes high quality teaching by recruiting persons who can demonstrate excellent educational skills and
scientific potential. Bases on the person’s experience and competence the appointment will be made to one of the three levels: University
Teacher, University Lecturer, or Senior University Lecturer, on the Aalto University lecturer track.
In Aalto University, the lecturer career system is mainly for teachers who teach bachelor and master level programmes. Their main responsibility
is teaching, which is complemented with agreed combination of research, tasks for scientific community, and academic leadership. Responsibilities
also include instructing students, developing and planning curriculum and teaching together with professors and other teachers.
This full-time position is located at the Department of Civil Engineering. The lecturer’s duties include teaching in the Master’s programme
Building Technology and Bachelor’s programme in Engineering, participating in the planning, coordination and development of teaching, theses
instruction and administration.
The person to be selected is required to have at least a master’s degree in the field of structural engineering that gives competence to teach
structural design and analysis as a part of the process between architecture and structural engineering, evidence of success in teaching and
ability to act as a team player. Research experience, doctor degree, and/or professional experience will be considered an advantage as well.
Excellent English skills are required. Command of Finnish and Swedish languages is a benefit.
The salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system applied at Aalto University.
