The Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg invites
applications for a
Junior Professorship (W1) „Transformation
towards Sustainable Energy Systems“ with
Fulltime position, start date: immediately
in the Department of Environmental Social Sciences and Geography.
This professorship is particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.
The professorship should develop and refine instruments of environmental regulation
which are necessary for the transformation towards sustainable energy systems and investigate
policy formulation and operational implementation under changing technical,
societal, and economic conditions.
The main research focus will be on developing coordinated legal and fiscal management
tools as well as managerial control instruments for the transformation towards
sustainable energy systems.
The professorship should engage actively in a multi and interdisciplinary exchange
with experts from business administration, engineering, law and environmental policy,
and also involve representatives from industry and industry associations.
As the professorship is linked with the international and interfaculty MSc „Renewable
Energy Engineering and Management“ (REM), interdisciplinary cooperation and a special
commitment in teaching within the MSc programme REM is expected. The willingness
to engage in other study programmes is a requirement.
The successful applicant is able to demonstrate
Research experience in environmental regulation and environmental management
related to renewable energy and the energy transition or the transformation to sustainable
renewable energy systems in general
Legal expertise at the interface to economic sciences
An interdisciplinary research profile
Prerequisites for the employment of Junior Professors are a university degree, an outstanding
dissertation and an excellent publication record.
This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it can
be extended by two years. After successful interim evaluation the tenure procedure
towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated.The tenure procedures are regulated
in the Statutes and Quality assurance concept for Junior Professorships with and without
Tenure Track and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science. As a prerequisite for
granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1) the
requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality assurance concept have to be met and
(2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Environment and Natural
Resources have to be met.
