Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn
At the Institute of Geosciences, Meteorology Section, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn a
W1 Junior Professorship (Tenure-Track W2)
for Climate Dynamics
is to be filled at the earliest possible date. The future job holder should be a personality with internationally recognized contributions in climate and environmental research. A special focus of the teaching and research activities will be on atmospheric climate monitoring.
It is expected that the professorship will build up an internationally visible research team and actively participate in the conception and implementation of research projects in the field of interdisciplinary Earth system research with the Section Meteorology, the other sections of the Institute (Geophysics, Geochemistry / Petrology, Palaeontology and Geology), the Geoverbund ABC/J as well as the other departments of the University of Bonn for monitoring the terrestrial Earth system. Contributions to the transdisciplinary research areas of the University of Bonn are expected focusing on the simulation and evaluation of complex models of the Earth system.
Teaching is an integral part of the professorship. Being able to instruct in German and English, the applicant should represent the full range of climate dynamics in the B. Sc. course "Meteorology and Geophysics" and M. Sc. course "Physics of Earth and Atmosphere" and contribute to the further development of the courses. An active participation in the academic self-administration is mandatory. Didactic skills are expected.
Junior professors are appointed for a period of three years; an extension for a further three years is possible if the interim evaluation is positive. Following a positive final evaluation decision by the responsible committees of the University of Bonn, they can then be appointed to a permanent W2 professorship.
