Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an internationally established university with 160 years of history that is rooted in the Bauhaus tradition. It combines science and technology with art and design. This approach characterises the faculties of Architecture and Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Art and Design, and Media. In addition to their subject-specific functions, the faculties are also committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and to the interpenetration between art, science, design and practise.
The Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites applications for a junior professorship (W1) in
»Media Anthropology«
beginning as soon as possible.
The topics of the professorship in research and teaching are the manifold interconnections between media processes and those of human existence. This innovative and hybrid field of knowledge operates at the intersection of media, image, film, art and cultural studies on the one hand, and philosophy, aesthetics, anthropology, sociology and ecology on the other. It has received considerable attention in recent years as part of the critical Anthropocene discourse. In view of the pervasive mediatization and mechanization of all life processes, also in their aesthetic dimensions, from prosthetics to the expansion of image circulation, it is currently developing a reactualization and re-profiling of its basic approaches. Media anthropology thus contributes to the redefinition of human existence under contemporary conditions.
The Faculty of Media at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is taking a leading role in this current and challenging development through its DFG Research Training Group »Media Anthropology«. The advertised junior professorship is expected to contribute intensively to this research network.
The professorship is anchored in the German-language B.A. and M.A. programs in Media Studies and works closely with the other professorships in Media Studies as well as neighbouring programs and faculties. The teaching load in the first phase of the junior professorship is 4 LVS.
Applicants must have completed a relevant degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines or a related subject and have a doctorate that is well above average and relevant in terms of subject and topic. They must have a knowledge of German that ensures that teaching can be carried out.
Experience in participating in academic self-governance as well as in externally funded research projects is welcome.
