JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP (W1) IN HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING IN THE ENGINEERING SCIENCES
The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Sciences in conjunction with the interdepartmental Research Department
"Subsurface Modeling and Engineering" (SME) and the Collaborative Research Center SFB 837 "Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling"
invites applications for the position of a Junior Professorship (W1) in High Performance Computing in the Engineering Sciences to start on 01.01.2017.
The Junior-Professorship is initially limited to a period of three years. Depending on successful evaluation the appointment will
be extended for another three years.
Emerging challenges for predictive simulations of materials, structures, and complete environmental ensembles at various spatial and
temporal scales in civil, environmental and subsurface engineering require highly efficient computing strategies. The announcement
of this Professorship aims at bridging the gap between advanced (multiphysics, multiscale) computational models and next generation
high performance computing strategies. The applicant should have an excellent Ph.D. and expertise in the area of high performance
computing using spatio-temporal discretization methods (e.g. finite element) in engineering. Potential fields of applications are
simulations of materials and structures at various scales, fluid- and fluid-structure interaction problems, or real time computing.
The successful candidate will find opportunities for establishing close cooperation within the University and for integrating his/her
research into the Faculty for Civil- and Environmental Engineering, the Research Department "Subsurface Engineering" and the DFG
Collaborative Research Center 837 "Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling".
The position includes teaching duties in research related topics in English and in German language.
