of Kiel University invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (W 1) in „Bio-inspired Computation“
with temporary civil service status for an initial period of four years to start at the earliest possible time.
The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area Neuromorphic Engineering in research and teaching. The applicant should have a degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Informatics or Mathematics preferably in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Physics or Biology. Experience in obtaining third party funding is an advantage.
The research area includes the design and experimental verification of dynamic systems, on principles which are based on fundamental mechanisms of information processing in nervous systems. The activities should strengthen the Collaborative Research Center 1461 “Neurotronics: Bio-inspired Information Pathways” (https://www.crc1461-neurotronics.de/index.php/en/), the Priority Research Area KiNSIS (Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science, https://www.kinsis.uni-kiel.de/en?set_language=en) as well as the plant Digital-Science-Center.
We are seeking a personality who is scientifically qualified at least in one of the following areas:
Memristive devices and circuits
Biological information processing
Self-organization in biological systems
Practical knowledge of thin-film technology, metrology and programming is an advantage. International experience in science is welcomed. The willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation in existing and planned research networks in electrical engineering and information technology is expected, especially in the Collaborative Research Center 1461 and the "Center for Networked Sensor Systems (ZEVS)" which is currently being established. Experience with the acquisition of third-party funds and in teaching is an advantage.

After successful evaluation of the first phase of the junior professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of three or two years (second phase).
