Digital Learning and Instruction in School
with Tenure Track (W 2)
for the Institute of Applied Educational Science. The position is open from October 2020.
This professorship is one of five professorships the Stiftung Universität Hildesheim has been granted by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It specifically targets researchers at an early stage in their academic career.
Issues of education concerning media (Medienpädagogik), the use of media for teaching (Mediendidaktik) with respect to the design of digital scenarios of learning and instruction, and the challenges resulting from the digital transformation of educational processes in a society that is characterized by diversity should be the focus of research.
The obligations of the professorship in teaching are mainly situated within the field of education in the teacher training programs of the University of Hildesheim (BA/BSc Polyvalenter Zwei-Fächer-Bachelorstudiengang, M.Ed. Lehramt für Grundschule, M.Ed. Lehramt für Haupt- und Realschulen) and should cover the following areas: Use of digital media in teaching / learning and instruction with digital media; digital literacy / media literacy and social competences as an educational objective of schools in digital environments.
Willingness to contribute to the project "Cumulative and Curriculum-Wide Interconnected Development of Pre-Service Teachers' Digital Competences" (Cu2RVE) funded in the context of the Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung (national funding program for teacher education) and to collaborate with the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (CeLeB), the Center for Diversity, Democracy and Inclusion in Education (ZBI), the Center for Digital Change as well as other relevant institutions within the University of Hildesheim and beyond is expected.
The prospective holder of the professorship will teach in German and is therefore expected to speak German at the appropriate level or develop such mastery within one year after the appointment.
Exceptional capability for advanced scientific work, as typically demonstrated by a doctoral degree/PhD with an above-average final grade in educational research or a closely related field, aptitude in teaching, and the willingness to develop the necessary social and leadership competences are requirements for appointment.
The prospective holder of the position should have a track record of empirical research and theoretical work concerning the opportunities for education that emerge through processes of digitalization, especially with respect to teaching in schools. Documented research topics of the applicant should be located within one or several of the following areas:
Learning and instruction with digital media
Digital learning environments, digital participation in society, and digital learning in inclusive settings
Assessment of and/or support for the development of digital literacy
Digital transformation and education (as well as educational theory)
Video-based methods in teacher education
The prospective holder of the position should be equipped with excellent mastery of empirical research methods and be able to relate to quantitative as well as qualitative research paradigms. Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with Computer Science, Research on Education in Specific Subjects (Fachdidaktiken), Educational Research (Erziehungswissenschaft), and potentially further disciplines is a requirement. Experience in attracting third-party funding would be an asset.
The requirements for employment listed in § 30 of the Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (University Law of the State of Lower Saxony) apply. In the third year of employment, an interim evaluation is made. This serves as the basis for the decision as to whether an extension for a further three years will be granted to the candidate. A final evaluation is held no later than the sixth year of employment. Dependent on the results, a decision will be reached as to whether the candidate will be given tenure at W 2 level. The tenure procedures are regulated in the Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure-Track Verfahren an der Universität Hildesheim.
