The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department for Rehabilitation Sciences,
invites applications for a
Junior Professorship for "Transition processes in the educational system taking into account impairments and disabilities"
starting as soon as possible. This is a W2 tenure track position. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of a
permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than after five years of service. The professorship will be funded by the
„Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.“ The aim of the programme is to pave the way for a
secure career in academia for early stage researchers. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as
well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and management skills. The concrete requirements out of the framework

The junior professorship focuses on research and teaching in the subject area „Transition processes in the educational system taking into
account impairments and disabilities.“ The successful candidate will explore – theoretically and empirically – questions about
transition processes and institutional interferences (e.g. between kindergarten, K-12 schooling, vocational training, out-of-school learning areas).
Research topics include the social construction of differences, the need for professionalization and organizational development. Familiarity with
the field of Disability Studies is desired.
We are looking for applicants with experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research and at least two of the following specializations:
- Institutional and organizational development with a focus on transition processes
- Professionalization and professional development
- Pedagogical support for transition processes
- The social construction of impairment and disability concepts from an interdisciplinary perspective
The teaching tasks infer from the designated research fields and curricular requirements of the institute’s study programmes.
Collaboration in one of the two central research areas of the Institute ,
Education-Learning-Inclusion` or ,
Cultural Participation`
is expected. Experience in generating thirdparty funds is desirable.
Applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 102 a of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz”.
