Junior Professorship (m/f/d)
Applied Geoecology / Landscape Ecology
(W1, without tenure track)
for the
Institute of Geography. The position is open from October 2022.
With this call for applications, the University is particularly addressing highly qualified young scientists who, following their PhD, have shown extraordinary potential for a further career in science through their previous achievements in research and teaching.
We are looking for a person who represents the subject of Geography in research and teaching in selected focal areas of Applied Geoecology / Landscape Ecology that complement the ongoing activities of the Institute. She or he should be credentialed in at least one of the following topics:
- Landscape Research / Human-Environment-Research,
- Geoarchaeology,
- Soil Geography / Geomorphology,
- GIS / Remote Sensing,
- Digital capture and modelling of landscape structures and landscape processes.
Applicants with outstanding credentials in other forward-looking fields of Physical Geography are strongly encouraged to apply.
The teaching focus is on Physical Geography / Geoecology courses in the Bachelor of Geography and the M.Sc. Environment, Conservation and Sustainability. Participation in the teaching of Geography for other majors is expected. An excellent dissertation with a geoecological/landscape ecological focus and a relevant degree (Master or similar) in Physical Geography, Geoecology / Landscape Ecology, or (Geo-)Environmental Sciences are required. Teaching experience and involvement in externally funded research projects are desired.
The formal requirements result from section 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz, NHG). The Junior Professor will be employed by the University of Hildesheim Foundation for an initial period of three years. Employment can be extended by up to three years, subject to a positive teaching evaluation and an external review of the research or arts performance.
The prospective holder of the professorship will teach some courses in German and is therefore expected to speak German at the appropriate level (B2).
