Government and the Federal States - 21 tenure-track junior professorships will be advertised. Currently, we are in search of eligible candidates for the
following tenure-track junior professorship at the Faculty of Engineering:
Junior Professor in
"Psychological processes of education in social media"
(Salary Class Group W1 LBesO W - with Tenure Track as per W2)
The candidate will conduct research and teaching in the area of "Digitalization in education" from the perspective of psychology, cognitive science or communication science. He or she should demonstrate excellence by internationally recognized work in the field of education processes in social media. The focus can be on formal as well as informal education areas and relate to different applied contexts such as school or higher education, political education, health-related education, science and the public.
The Junior-Professorship is part of the faculty for engineering, Department Computer Science and Applied Cognitive Science. Building on the research consortium "Education in the digital world (For-BiLD)" the candidate creatively develops his/her research and actively contributes to the develop-ment of the consortium by providing a psychological perspective. A cooperation with the DFG-Research Training Group "User-Centred Social Media", which combines researchers from computer science and psychology, is desired. We expect interest in interdisciplinary research and the ability and willingness to combine computational and empirical approaches.
The Junior Professorship is part of the teaching activities of the Department Computer Science and Applied Cognitive Science. The candidate supports the B.Sc. and M.Sc. program "Applied Cognitive and Media Sciences". Teaching should focus on psychological aspects of social media. In the master program the successful candidate contributes to the priority "Psychology" and "Social Media and Professional Communication".
Publications in the field of expertise in peer-reviewed journals are expected, especially in leading international journals.
Experience in the procurement of competitive third-party funding, involvement in international research and international experience are desirable. Furthermore, leadership experience in research is beneficial.
The University of Duisburg-Essen places great emphasis on excellence in teaching. Candidates must present their teaching concepts, showing their relevance to the research profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The hiring requirements comply with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG).
Teaching requirements currently are four hours of teaching during the first, and five hours of teach-ing during the second employment stage of the Junior Professorship.
Employment is contingent on the presentation of the corresponding requirements for temporary civil service. The duration of employment complies with § 39 Sect. 5 HG.
