The Cluster of Excellence „MULTISCALE BIOIMAGING: From Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable Cells (MBExC)“ invites applications for a

Junior Fellow (m/f/d)

position available for 3 years, full-time | salary according to TV-L

The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. It's 7,900 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, "City of Science", located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city's attractive network of scientific research facilities.
The Cluster of Excellence "Multiscale Bioimaging: from Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable cells" (MBExC) is an interdisciplinary, cross-faculty research center of the University of Göttingen and pursues a novel research approach with joint efforts in modern bioimaging, in particular photonics, molecular biosciences, neuroscience and cardiovascular research. The goal of MBExC is to decipher diseaserelevant nanoscale functional units in neurons, sensory cells and cardiomyocytes with the long-term goal to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for disorders affecting the heart and the brain, or both. By a multiscale bioimaging approach, MBExC aims at unraveling fundamental biological principles at an increasing level of complexity from molecular, nanoscale to network and organ levels. The MBExC research program covers gene expression and regulation, protein assembly and targeting, Ca2+signaling and Ca2+triggered membrane fusion as well as the development of innovative research techniques.
We are offering a Junior Fellow position for excellent and highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to accelerate their way towards independence. Applicants should have a strong background (first degree) in the natural or life sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, biology, neuroscience or cardiovascular research) with an interest in joining one of the interdisciplinary research groups of our Cluster of Excellence "Multiscale Bioimaging: from Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable Cells" (MBExC). Applicants should have completed their doctoral thesis not longer than 8 years ago.
We will fund the candidate's own position and limited startup funds for equipment, personnel and consumables according to the needs of the project. Junior Fellows will be associated with MBExC core-PIs for use of laboratory space, infrastructure, and mentoring and are encouraged to apply for further funding in order to establish their own groups. After three years, progress will be evaluated and the position may be extended if funding can be secured. The successful applicant will become a member of the new Hertha-Sponer-College.
MBExC relies on a close interdisciplinary collaboration between the University Medical Center Göttingen, the Faculties of the Natural Sciences and Life Sciences and the nonuniversity research institutions at Göttingen Campus, namely the Max Planck Institutes for Biophysical Chemistry, of Experimental Medicine and for Dynamics and Self-Organization.
We explicitly welcome applications from abroad.
Please include in your application a cover letter, your CV, your three most significant publications, a brief research plan outlining the envisaged integration into the scientific scope of the MBExC, and name and address for two referees, and relevant certificates.
For further information on the research profile of the MBExC please contact Dr. Fritz Kobe, Scientific Coordinator, Multiscale Bioimaging Cluster of Excellence (contact details below)
Women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.
We look forward to receiving your application by August 31st, 2020:
