The Johanna Quandt Young Academy (JQYA) is an independent academy within the Goethe University which fosters young researchers at the beginning of their independent career. It units and supports scientists from every conceivable discipline. Each year, the fellows and members of the JQYA formulate an annual theme for their Academy Program. The participation in the Academy Program is very dynamic and takes place in form of informal round-table discussions, conferences and workshops.
The international city of Frankfurt am Main, situated in the centre of Germany and Europe, is an attractive, diverse and scientifically inspiring place for doing research. The guest scientist can use the extensive infrastructural network within the Rhein-Main-Universities Alliance. With the IAPF, we award one international scientist per year and provide the opportunity for conducting his/her research at the Goethe University and strengthening international networking activities.
In the founding year of the JQ Young, the topic focuses on “Nature and Normativity”. Under the conditions of modern sciences, we want to pose the questions like: What is our understanding of "nature" or of the "natural" in the sciences and in the humanities? What do we mean when we define a regularity in nature as “Natural Law”? How is the understanding of "nature" or of "natural" constitutive for our reading of "normativity"? What are the relations among the supposition of "nature" and the concept of "normativity" in the different fields of our disciplines?
International young scientists, who are working in their field of studies on these questions and would like to join our interdisciplinary debates, are invited by the JQYA to the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main for conducting their transdisciplinary research. A 12 months RESEARCH STAY at the Goethe University is exclusively dedicated to this year’s motto “Nature and Normativity” and is awarded with 60.000,-€. We will further support you with additional funds for traveling and accommodation. You will become a Fellow of the Johanna Quandt Young Academy to shape the Academy Program, your collaborative research at the Goethe University and your scientific career.
If you are an advanced Postdoc with proven scientific independency, an independent group leader, or a “junior” professor with currently funded position you can apply by submitting your (1) CV with a list of publications and conference participations; (2) a letter of motivation explaining you research ideas concerning “Nature and Normativity” for the upcoming year (no longer than 4 pages); (3) two international references; (4) “statement of the home institution” which you can download from the homepage of the Goethe University under GRADE Academies, “Johanna Quandt Young Academy”. Make sure that you can interrupt your position at your home institution for 12 months.
All candidates shall send their hard-copy applications addressing the directors of the JQYA Prof. Dr. Matthias Lutz-Bachmann and Prof. Dr. Enrico Schleiff to:
