HEAD OF THE X-RAY LABORATORY (M/F/D)
(A13, FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HOLD A CORRESPONDING CAREER POSITION UP TO A14)

The Faculty of Geosciences invites applications for the head of the X-ray laboratory (A13, for people who already hold a corresponding career position up to A14) of the Institute for Geology, Mineralogy, and Geophysics.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of the X-ray laboratory of the Crystallography Group and support the institute in geoscientific teaching (Bachelor's and Master's courses).
In addition to the general employment law requirements, application requirements include a doctorate in natural sciences with a crystallographic relevance and sound knowledge of crystallography, specifically in implementing and evaluating diffraction experiments. Proven experience in the technical maintenance of X-ray diffractometers and using synchrotron and neutron sources is advantageous.
The work tasks include (i) the entire workflow from sample preparation to measurement and interpretation of the data, (ii) the organization of the workflow, (iii) the instruction and supervision of students, doctoral candidates, and postdocs, (iv) the accompanying supervision and advice of research projects that use the facilities of the X-ray laboratory, (v) the technical support, maintenance, servicing, and care of the laboratory equipment, (vi) responsibility for radiation protection.
Independent research opportunities are given, and acquiring third-party-funded research projects is desirable. In teaching (5 SWS), the successful applicant is expected to hold lectures and laboratory practicals on diffraction methods and crystal structure determination, including teaching how to operate the existing analytical devices and the associated data analysis.
