The German Cancer Research Center is seeking a

Head of the Proteomics Unit

(Ref-No. 2019-0220)

The Proteomics Unit supports researchers at the DKFZ by providing state-of-the-art proteomics services using latest generation Orbitrap-based mass spectrometers (Q-Exactive-HF-X). We are looking to appoint a head of the facility, who will be responsible for operating the facility, and for extending the capabilities of the facility in offering advanced proteomic workflows.

Description:
  • Operational management of the proteomics facility, including prioritizing and organizing all tasks required to run the facility and supervision of facility staff
  • Adopting novel techniques and experimental approaches to further devel­oping the proteomics facility for enhanced quality, efficiency and diversity of analytical workflows
  • Advise users of the facility from diverse backgrounds on appropriate exper­imental design, method development, and data analysis / interpretation
  • Oversee and advise facility staff in maintaining, operating, and trouble­shooting LC / MS / MS systems
  • Take a pro-active role in interacting with MS and proteomics groups on campus and beyond for harmonization and exchange of technical knowhow
  • Overseeing budget
  • Providing guidance in teaching / training of facility staff
Your profile:
  • A PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field of analytical science
  • Extensive experience in a protein mass spectrometry service unit or conducting proteomics research, either in academia or industry
  • Knowledge of advanced methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins and their modifications using LC-MS / MS workflows
  • Experience with software tools for data analysis and management
  • A background in metabolomics workflows and applications is a plus
  • Commitment to working in a service-oriented environment
  • Ability to oversee and guide facility staff in maintaining, operating, and trouble­shooting LC / MS / MS systems
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of core facilities or demon­strated ability to conduct research in a collaborative manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate with a broad range of faculty in a professional and approachable manner; willingness to assist in the writing of grant proposals aimed at supporting and advancing the core facility
  • Ability to represent the facility at scientific meeting
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of core facilities or demon­strated ability to conduct research in a collaborative manner
The position is limited to 2 years with the possibility of prolongation.
The position can in principle be part-time.
