is seeking a
Head of Genome Centre
to lead the genomics service group. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing state
of the art next generation DNA sequencing technology and related genomics methods to scientists at
the MPIPZ and partner Max Planck Institutes. Responsibilities include managing support staff working
in the laboratories, bioinformatics and robotics to provide high-quality DNA sequencing, updating the
service as new technologies become available and proposing non-standard solutions to genomicsrelated
problems. In addition, the successful applicant is expected to show excellent communication
skills in order to interact with the many users of the Genome Centre at the MPIPZ and other Max
Planck Institutes. Fluent written and spoken communication in English is essential, and German would
We seek a creative, flexible and highly motivated candidate with a PhD in the life sciences and postdoctoral
experience of genomics. Previous experience of working with plants is not required, but prior
experience in the operation of a sequencing facility or other high-throughput service centre would
be advantageous. The position is available for 4 years initially with an approximate starting date of
January 2017. The successful applicant will work together with the existing Head of Genome Centre
(Dr Richard Reinhardt) until his retirement in December 2017. Payment and benefits are according to
