New composite materials, steady increase of computer performance and miniaturisation of sensors and electronics decisively influence the development trends for future load-carrying structures. Therefore, these structures will be multifunctional lightweight and durable.
The Institute of Structural Analysis at Leibniz Universität Hannover aims at these strategic objectives. Its research is focused on the areas of vibrations and composites.
The research unit Composites at the Institute of Structural Analysis is divided into two closely collaborating groups – “Structures” and “Materials”. The successful candidate will manage the “Materials” group. Activities will include developing and implementing models to simulate progressive failure of composite materials and layered structures, acquisition of new research projects, supervising doctoral candidates and publication in international journals.
The department is guided by the principle “composites as energy efficient and sustainable materials” and, through their research, aims to contribute to energy transition as well as expand their network. An affinity or basic experience in at least one of the fields of energy-efficient aviation, wind energy, hydrogen storage, recyclability of composite materials would therefore be advantageous. The successful candidate shall participate in teaching at the institute or teach independently in their area of research.
Candidates must have completed a university science degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computational science in engineering or a similar field. Very good knowledge of computational mechanics is required. Good German proficiency (level B2) with the intention of reaching level C1 within one year is essential.
Leibniz University Hannover considers itself a family-friendly university and therefore promotes a balance between work and family responsibilities. Part-time employment is possible, provided that the position can be filled in full through further part-time staffing.
The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented. Women are under-represented in the salary scale of the advertised position. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Moreover, we welcome applications from qualified men. Preference will be given to equally-qualified applicants with disabilities.
