The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in
research and teaching. The Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor (m/f) of Materials and Process Engineering (pay grade: W3)
The applicant should conduct cutting-edge research at the interface of materials and process engineering. Areas of interest
include but are not limited to: materials recycling and secondary raw materials, electrochemical engineering, electrocatalysis,
electrothermal processes, materials processing and unsteady state process engineering.
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate independent, creative research programmes and participate in undergraduate-
and graduate-level teaching. This includes fundamental courses in mechanical engineering and materials processing in the faculty’s
B.Sc. programmes as well as specialized courses in our M.Sc. programmes. The ability to teach in both English and German is required
for courses at the master’s level. Teaching on the bachelor’s level is exclusively in German. The faculty is currently
developing an innovative B.Sc./M.Sc. programme in Environmental and Resource Technology (starting winter semester 2018/19) in which
the new chair is expected to have a major impact.
Energy Research & Energy Technology, Ecology & Environmental Sciences, and Advanced Materials are established focus areas of
research in Bayreuth. The new professor is therefore expected and encouraged to establish close interactions with the Bayreuth Center
of Energy Technology (ZET) and the Centre for Materials Science & Engineering (ZMW).
Requirements for this position (according to Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, a doctoral degree,
a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), and proven excellence in teaching. Evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement,
for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. The ability to teach in the English language
is expected. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
