The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of School Education
pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: € 6,530.03) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.
The successful applicant will represent the entire spectrum of the field of school education. Requirements are extensive experience in teaching and
research in the field of school education, perspectives in research and teaching that take culture into account, experience in empirical research –
especially in reconstructive classroom and school research – and an innovative emphasis of research that complements the existing expertise within
the University of Bayreuth’s Department of Educational Science. Skills in media education would be considered an asset.
Working in the University of Bayreuth’s Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, the incumbent will engage in joint research projects and will make
advances in the field of school education and its many related areas. He or she will play an active role in the University’s focus areas, especially
Cultural Encounters & Transcultural Processes.
Teaching responsibilities will be in the context of the bachelor’s programme Culture & Society and in the degree programmes in educational science in
preparation for secondary school teaching at
Realschulen, Gymnasien, and vocational schools including practical classroom training. The willingness
to develop a new interdisciplinary master’s programme focusing on educational science and to put it into effect is expected.
Prerequisites for this position are (according to the BayHSchPG Article 7 and Article 10 para 3) a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence
in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (
Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly
achievement for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment will also be considered. A further prerequisite is the ability to teach
in English. According to Bavarian law, only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
