The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of the Didactics of Geography
pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: € 6,530.03) to commence 1 April 2020. This is a permanent civil service position. Additional salary components will be negotiated separately.
The successful applicant will be an expert in the empirical didactics of geography, will have a record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals,
and will have experience in obtaining external funding. He or she will be expected to make an innovative contribution to current debates and to the development
of concepts in the didactics of geography on the basis of the latest theoretical and methodological considerations. His or her theoretical discussions in the
subject area will be linked to applications. The will have wide-ranging experience as an instructor in teacher education programes for Realschulen and
Gymnasien. A research focus on global learning holder of the position / intercultural learning, using modern media in geography class, and a willingness
to contribute to selected focus areas at the University of Bayreuth would be an asset. The ability and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation (in
research in the field and in educational sciences) and to assume responsibilities in academic self-administration are required.
In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are (according to the BayHSchPG Article 7 and Article 10 para 3) a university
degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence
of equivalent scholarly achievement for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment will also be considered. A further prerequisite is the ability
to teach in English. According to Bavarian law, only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
