In the case of applications of researchers in risk, the special biographical circumstances are taken into account.
The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Solid Mechanics for
Electrical Energy Storage
at pay grade W 3 to commence as soon as possible.
This is a permanent civil service position. We are looking for a person (m/f/x) with an outstanding international track record in basic engineering research in the advertised field, documented in particular by relevant publications on the research areas listed below in renowned scientific journals. He/she will complement the competence already existing in the Faculty of Engineering and develop new concepts, as well as continue inter-faculty cooperation, including with non-university institutions. The willingness and ability to attract external funding, including in coordinated programmes, must be evident. The person to be appointed is expected to take an active and leading role in the newly founded Bavarian Center for Battery Technology (BayBatt).
It is expected that the chair’s research focus will be in at least two of the following areas:
- Computational Mechanics,
- Nonlinear Structural Mechanics,
- Nonlinear Mechanics of Materials (esp. damage mechanics, fracture mechanics, mechanics of composite materials),
- Data-Driven Methods in Mechanics.
Research should be particularly relevant with regard to the development of electrochemical power sources, for example: analysis and simulation-based design of cells and modules, process simulation (forming, joining) for manufacturing, cyclically mechanically and thermally stressed components at cell and module level, modules under impact stress (crush & crash), vibration behavior, or similar. The willingness to experimentally validate theoretical research work as well as prototype building is required.
The chair is expected to play a central role in teaching in the interdisciplinary master’s programmes “Batterietechnik” (battery engineering) and “Battery Materials & Technologies”, which are currently being established, and to contribute mechanical engineering expertise in particular. The willingness to contribute to bachelor and further master’s programmes, especially “Maschinenbau” (mechanical engineering), is expected. The ability and willingness to teach in German and English are required.
The general administrative requirements for hiring professors at universities in Bavaria apply. A complete description of the vacancy can be found at
