Full Professorship (W3) of Ceramic Materials (Chair)
The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching.
The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Ceramic Materials (Chair)
at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,118 euros) to commence on 1 April 2021. This is a permanent civil service position.
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering background who has in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of ceramic materials.
With regard to research, expertise and relevant credentials in several of the following areas are required:
advanced technical ceramics
glass and glass technology
The person to be appointed should also use innovative manufacturing processes (e.g. additive ceramic production, modern coating processes) and work on current topics on the material side, e.g. on Ultra High Temperature Ceramics (UHTC) or MAX phases. Experience in the field of cutting edge applications, e.g., in energy technology, process engineering, mechanical engineering or lightweight construction, is advantageous. Moreover, it is intended to establish the topic of digitization in materials research in Bayreuth.
Industry experience is encouraged. Managing staff and providing support for early-career scholars will be important tasks for the future postholder.
It is assumed that the professor's research group will raise third-party funds for its research projects to add to the appropriate basic equipment that is already available. Collaboration with existing chairs of the faculty and participation in cross-faculty focus areas such as Advanced Materials and cooperation with non-university institutions on site (especially Fraunhofer institutions) are expressly encouraged.
The professor will offer engineering lectures, tutorials and internships in the field of ceramic materials, which are important for bachelor's and master's degree programmes (in particular Materials Science & Engineering). Compulsory lectures must generally be held in German; other courses may be offered in English to facilitate international exchange. The ability to teach in English is expected.
