Full Professorship (W3) in Systems Biology

AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY

Candidates should have demonstrated research excellence in the field of systems biology using experimental and mathematical approaches to study mammalian systems. This includes, for example, the study of model systems at the intra- and intercellular level and/or tissues and organs. Furthermore, applications relevant to biomedical research or pharmaceutical biotechnology are desired.

The successful candidate is expected to engage in interdisciplinary research activities with natural and engineering sciences as well as the Stuttgart Research Center Sys­tems Biology (SRCSB). A cooperation with the Stuttgart Research Center for Simu­lation Technology (SimTech) and the project ‘Regional Research Alliance Baden-Württemberg – The Human System‘ with the University of Tübingen is desirable.

The University of Stuttgart is seeking a candidate with strong didactic skills and pre­vious experience in teaching who is expected to contribute to the teaching curriculum of the B. Sc. / M. Sc. study courses of Technical Biology. Active participation in the design of a new M. Sc. study course in Systems Biology is required. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in leadership and team motivation, and the acquisition of external funding.

The position will be located at the Center of Biochemical Engineering within an institute that will be newly established, by fusion of the current Institute of Industrial Genetics (with its new focus on eukaryotic genetics) and the Institute of Cell Biology and Immun­ology. The professorship will involve the cooperative leadership of this new institute.
