On fulfillment of civil service requirements, a lifetime appointment can be carried out.
We are seeking for a personality who represents and develops the BIAS and the university department in research and teaching.
In the advertised position you will be the scientific managing director of the BIAS GmbH, an institute within the division of laser material processing and processing systems. You will be responsible for the technical and entrepreneurial management and development of the business unit and will continue the existing proven focal points of BIAS (currently laser beam welding, joining of aluminium and other lightweight materials, additive manufacturing especially powder bed systems and DED processes, structuring of surface technologies for sustainable production and simulation). With the further development, profiling and innovative accents you will actively increase the national and international visibility of the BIAS.
We are looking for a qualified candidate with an industrial background who has an excellent track record in the field of laser material processing and who can successfully build a bridge between application and research. You are experienced in leading interdisciplinary teams -expertise preferably industrially acquired-, in strategic planning and above all in the acquisition and implementation of national and international development projects.
In addition, you competently represent laser material processing in teaching and basic research as a professor in Faculty 04 of the University of Bremen. The personal union of the university professorship and the institute management has been proven over many years and is a guarantee for successful cooperation in research and teaching. The focus of the professorship should be on novel processes and a holistic approach to innovative, material-oriented manufacturing with a focus on laser material processing. It is expected that the appointee integrates himself/herself into the scientific focus "Materials Science and Technology" at the University of Bremen (Center for Materials and Processes - MAPEX,
https://www.uni-bremen.de/mapex.html). Participating in academic self-administration and contributing to the modernization of teaching and study programs are an obvious part of a professorship for you. The ability and willingness to lecture in German and English is required. Ideally, you have international work and teaching experience and bring enthusiasm for working with young people.
The conditions of employment include a completed scientific university degree in an engineering or comparable discipline, an outstanding PhD, educational aptitude as well as the readiness for further education in didactics of higher education and a habilitation or equivalent qualification, which may also have been achieved in an industrial environment. Integration and leadership qualities are a must and you should also have skills in taking gender and diversity dimensions into account within research, teaching and personnel management. A pronounced willingness of innovation and initiative is expected from the candidate, proven e.g. by significant publications and a strong funding record.
The appointment shall be made in accordance with § 18 of the Bremen Higher Education Act (BremHG) and §116 of the Bremen Civil Servant Act (BremBG).

The application documents should clearly show how the candidate's planned acquisition and research activities can enhance the BIAS and the department and support the development of the faculty regarding digitization in production.
