Research in Cancer at the
partner site Frankfurt / Mainz of
the German Cancer Consortium
The newly appointed professor will be appointed as a civil servant (Beamter) or as a salaried employee and shall strengthen research in translational
proteome research of cancer. The successful candidate will be working at the Frankfurt University Hospital, a partner site of the German Cancer Consortium
(DKTK). According to the “Jülicher Modell” the successful candidate will be appointed as a full professor of the Goethe University Frankfurt
am Main and will be granted leave of absence in order to be employed at the DKFZ. The German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) is a joint initiative of the German
Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the participating states and the DKFZ. The alliance between the DKFZ as a core center and the university
partner sites in Berlin, Dresden, Essen / Düsseldorf, Frankfurt / Mainz, Freiburg, Munich and Tübingen establishes joint translational cancer
research units. The DKTK promotes interdisciplinary approaches and innovative clinical studies, which will contribute to improved prevention, diagnosis,
and faster implementation of personalized therapies for cancer patients.
The successful candidate will have a background in medicine and clinical experience in oncology, proven excellence as an independent investigator in
research achievements through publications and successful acquisition of funds, and considerable teaching experience. She/he will be internationally
renowned for her/his work in the field of proteome analyses of biological samples and provide a strong insight and experience for translation of proteomics
research into clinically relevant findings in cancer medicine. Furthermore, she/he will have conducted scientific work in a prominent field of cancer biology,
most preferably with a focus on oncogenic signaling. Besides running a central clinical proteome research unit at the DKTK Frankfurt / Mainz, the successful
candidate will have the task to closely tie profiling and diagnostics programs to mechanistic research and to novel clinical approaches.
The German Cancer Consortium and the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main both offer a strong infrastructure in clinical oncology, biochemistry, pharmacology
and medicinal chemistry and heavily invest into drug development in cancer.
DKFZ as the largest biomedical research center in Germany provides also a first-class and highly stimulating scientific environment, including a number of core
facilities that will be accessible for the successful candidate. Cooperation with the DKFZ genomics-based high throughput sequencing unit and the bioinformatics
unit would be most welcome. With this position, the Frankfurt site plans to further develop its competence in protein-based high throughput methods to analyze
clinical samples with the aim to facilitate mechanistic insight into cancer biology, drug target discovery, and biomarker development. The successful candidate
will be conceptually and personally prepared to participate in this endeavor. Moreover, the professor will be cross-appointed to the Frankfurt University Hospital
to take leading clinical responsibilities for a specific cancer entity. The appointed professor shall intensively collaborate with the scientific and clinical
community on the campus, the DKFZ (www.dkfz.de)
as well as within the German Cancer Consortium (www.dktk.org).
The salary for the position is based on “W3” on the German university scale or equivalent. A separate contract to cover the duties at the Frankfurt
