Full Professor (W 3) for Public Health, Social and Preventive Medicine
The successful candidate will be appointed chairman/chairwoman of an independent research department at the Center for Preventive Medicine Baden-Württemberg of the Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University.
The future holder of the W 3 professorship will represent the subject of public health, social and preventive medicine in research and teaching. He/she shall have outstanding, internationally recognised scientific achievements in the field of prevention, early detection and early intervention in non-communicable diseases with a cardiovascular and metabolic focus. We are looking for a researcher with experience in translational public health projects as well as in the successful management of interdisciplinary teams in collaborative projects.
It is expected that the research of the future holder of the W 3 professorship will allow the transfer of scientific findings from basic and health research into practice, especially in complex environments such as communities and organizations. The development of innovative forms of health care provision through the application of digital solutions and multi-professional teams is desirable. He/she will also ideally have a good scientific understanding of the health economic aspects of public health and medical prevention. A close cooperation with the departments of general medicine and the prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases at the Center for Preventive Medicine Baden-Württemberg and with the Heinrich-Lanz-Centre for Digital Health is expected. Experience in giving policy advice and in interacting with non-academic stakeholders within the health care system would be an advantage. The future jobholder should also be committed to teaching within the framework of the model study programme MaReCuM. The Department of Public Health, Social and Preventive Medicine is currently responsible for teaching occupational medicine and health economics.
The successful candidate should have outstanding, internationally acknowledged academic credentials, a distinguished record of original research in the field, mentoring and teaching skills, administrative experience and an understanding of departmental financing at universities. He/she should actively participate in the development of MaReCuM in a cooperative manner.
Prerequisites for application are a university degree, a doctoral degree, and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications. Applications from physicians, psychologists or natural scientists are equally welcome.
The position is tenured and, by observing the legal regulations, the appointment will normally be made on the basis of a lifetime civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit).
