Full Professor (W2) in Theoretical Solid State Physics
Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of theoretical solid state physics. The starting date is winter term 2021. The candidate is expected to contribute to continuing research in condensed matter physics at the RWTH and the Forschungszentrum Jülich and to strengthen the bridge between theory and experiment. Expertise in the field of two-dimensional materials (e.g. graphene), as well as light-matter interaction with a focus on, e.g., (cavity) optomagnonics is mandatory. Additional experience on quantum transport through mesoscopic systems is desirable. Participation in the "Aachen Graphene & 2D Materials Center" as well as the excellence cluster „Matter und Light for Quantum Computing“ is also desirable. We offer the opportunity to shape novel research collaborations. Teaching in theoretical physics at all levels (i.e. Bachelor and Master courses) is expected. In particular, teaching Master's courses on quantum magnetism and light-matter interaction is desirable. Particpation in academic self administration is expected.

A doctoral degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of re-search achievement as an assistant/an associate/a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding ca-reer outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
