Announcement of an open position at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Technische Universität Wien for a

Full Professor (female)
in „Complex Systems in Civil Engineering“

with a permanent contract (tenure) from 2017-10-01, according to § 98 UG.
According to TU Wien’s Plan for Advancement of Women, this announcement invites applications from women only.
The position of full professor addresses excellent scientists who work with complex systems in civil engineering, either in the context of modern building materials or future transport infrastructure and mobility requirements.
Depending on the candidate’s qualification profile, the professorship will be associated either with the Institute of Building Construction and Technology or the Institute of Transportation at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Wien. The position includes teaching and research in the field of either building material science or transport and mobility research, depending on the candidate’s profile.
For an appointment in building materials science, the professorship should develop and represent a new era of building material engineering. It should be based on current findings of directly related disciplines such as physical chemistry, statistical physics and biology, yet stay closely related to traditional subjects of civil engineering. The position is concerned with the optimization of traditional building materials and the development of novel ones. It encompasses building material research in the broadest sense, from the macroscopic scale down to those of nano and picometers. This concerns topics such as traditional composite materials, concretes with minimized cement content, molecularly improved binding agents, as well as biogenic materials and the study of biological systems as a source for inspiration of innovative design ideas and intelligent imitation. A state-of-the-art laboratory for building materials is assigned to the professorship.
For an appointment in holistic transport and mobility planning, the professorship focuses on the analysis and development of solutions for sustainable improvement of well-established and emerging transport and mobility systems particularly in terms of digitization of traffic. The research area of holistic transport and mobility planning includes traditional transport systems in close relation to spatial planning as well as approaches from human and social sciences, combining all these elements into comprehensive concepts. The professorship develops systemic concepts and approaches to modern transport and traffic infrastructures while considering long-term environmental, human and demographic demands as well as all economic and ecological challenges of sustainable and efficient handling of mobility requirements.
The teaching syllabus of the professorship covers all aspects of the respective field in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs Civil and Environmental Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to acquire external funding and to collaborate with other working groups at TU Wien in teaching and research.
Requirements:
  • completed Austrian or equivalent foreign university education including relevant PhD or doctoral degree,
  • Venia docendi (university teaching qualification) at an Austrian university or foreign equivalent, or equivalent other teaching qualification,
  • outstanding scientific qualification for research and research-oriented teaching,
  • excellent reputation as an active member in the scientific community and cooperation in national and international committees,
  • strong administrative, organizational and social skills, leadership qualifications as well as pedagogical and didactic aptitude.
Further qualifications:
  • strong future research potential,
  • ability and willingness to work interdisciplinary,
  • high potential to competitively acquire external funding,
  • ability and willingness to contribute to the university’s self-administration,
  • locate future career at Technische Universität Wien,
  • German language skills or willingness to acquire German language skills in an adequate amount of time and teach in German.
In accordance with the Austrian Collective Agreement for University Staff the minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 4.842,70 pre-tax (14 times a year). The actual salary depends on qualification and experience and is subject to negations between the successful candidate and TU Wien.
TU Wien is strongly committed to its diversity hiring goals and strategies (https://www.tuwien.ac.at/dle/personalentwicklung/tu_diversity_management/) and strives to employ persons with disabilities with appropriate qualifications and explicitly encourage them to send in their application. For requests please contact the councelling for people with disabilities at the TU Wien (Gerhard Neustätter, gerhard.neustaetter@tuwien.ac.at).
Applications have to include a curriculum vitae (professional and scientific career), a list of publications, copies of four publications, a list of presentations and a short description (max. 2 pages) of scientific activity and areas of interest. Applications should be addressed to Dekan der Fakultät für Bauingenieurwesen der Technischen Universität Wien, Prof. Ronald Blab, Karlsplatz 13/401-2, 1040 Wien, Austria. In addition to a paper copy, please include a CD-ROM with all application documents. Applications may also be sent electronically to info.bauwesen@tuwien.ac.at.
