The Tübingen Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital are part of the University of Excellence Tübingen. They provide medical services at the highest level and cover the entire spectrum of modern medicine, research, teaching and clinical care.
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a position at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering with integration into the iFIT Cluster of Excellence (“Image-guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies”) as a
Full Professor (W3) of Medicinal Chemistry with a Focus on Protein Kinase Inhibitors
available immediately. The successful candidate will be appointed as a civil servant with “Beamten”status provided she or he meets the criteria.
As part of the iFIT Cluster of Excellence, the successful candidate should represent medical-chemical research and play a key role in shaping active substance development projects from the lead structure to preclinical candidates. We are looking for an internationally renowned personality with a research focus on synthetic medicinal chemistry and oncological therapeutic target structures with high translation potential. A strong profile in the field of protein kinase inhibitors is expected, both on known, cancer-relevant targets as well as on new targets, for example from the less developed part of the kinome (“dark kinome”). In addition to extensive expertise in lead structure optimization, experience with complex medical-chemical syntheses and in heterocyclic chemistry is required. Expertise in the use of new modalities, in particular covalent drug development approaches, is explicitly desired. Moreover, experience in target structure identification/validation, particularly through the development of chemical “high quality probes”, in structure-based Drug Design/Molecular Modeling and in the development of biological in vitro assays is expected.
Required qualifications include a completed, relevant university degree, preferably in chemistry or pharmacy, postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure and experience in academic self-administration. This includes evidence of teaching effectiveness. Further requirements are the successful acquisition of third-party funding as well as participation in ongoing and planned research networks within the Faculty of Medicine as well as with external partners, including e.g. CRCs, research groups, and projects within the scope of the excellence strategy.
With regard to teaching, comprehensive experience evaluated as outstanding and involvement are expected, as well as active design of lectures and other teaching formats, particularly in view of innovative curricula in the degree programs taught at the Tübingen Faculty of Medicine. Teaching is expected to take place at the Faculty of Medicine as well as at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (Faculty of Science). The position has a teaching load of nine hours per week during the semester which can be reduced to an appropriate extent for the duration of the iFIT funding.
