The
Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
Full Professor (W3) in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (f/m/d)
(successor to Prof. Dr. med. Michael Neumaier)
to be filled starting Oct 1, 2025.
The successful candidate (f/m/d) will be appointed chairperson of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry (IKC) of University Medical Center Mannheim.
The successful candidate (f/m/d) should have a distinguished record of qualifications and accomplishments in all areas of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine regarding research, teaching and patient care. In addition to excellent scientific qualifications and outstanding clinical skills, a high level of commitment to teaching is required.
Regarding research, active participation in the research focus area “Vascular Biology and Medicine” or in the cross-sectional area “Inflammation Medicine, Immunology and Immunotherapy” of the Faculty is particularly desired, but involvement in the other research focuses and cross-sectional areas of the Faculty (Oncology, Translational Neurosciences, Medical Systems Technologies, Preventive Medicine and Digital Health) is also welcome. Integration into the vascular and immunological collaborative research activities of the Faculty (SFB 1366, GRK 2727) as well as in other collaborative projects of the Faculty and at Heidelberg University would also be expected. Furthermore, active participation in the development and implementation of teaching within the framework of the MaReCuM model study program is mandatory.
Prerequisites for application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate and, in accordance with § 47 para. 2 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable scientific qualification as well as board certification in laboratory medicine. In addition, internationally visible, excellent performance in research, teaching and patient care, relevant management experience, successful acquisition of extramural funding and didactic competence as well as cooperation and leadership skills and commitment to academic self-administration are expected.
The position is available permanently. According to § 49 para. 2a of Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg, professors who are responsible for patient care at an university hospital are, as a rule, employed under private law and get tenure immediately. Regarding patient care, the W3 professor for "Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine" will lead and manage the central laboratories of University Medical Center Mannheim at the IKC. For this clinical assignment, a separate contract will be concluded with the Universitätsklinikum Mannheim GmbH.
