We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of biochemical engineering. The starting date is 01.03.2023. The chair is an integral part of the Aachener Verfahrenstechnik (AVT). Building upon the current status, the chair shall continue to serve as a bridge between biotechnological and engineering research, with a focus on experimental engineering aspects.
In AVT's new research building NGP², the chair is involved in a pilot scale biorefinery for joint research. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in shaping the research profile of the biorefinery.
The chair is part of the profile areas "Energy, Chemical & Process Engineering (ECPE)" and "Molecular Science & Engineering (MSE)". The new professor is expected to continue the strong cooperation with colleagues from AVT, biology, and biotechnology of RWTH and the Forschungszentrum Jülich, e.g., in the Bioeconomy Science Center (BioSC). There is the possibility of participation in the cluster of excellence "The Fuel Science Center". An expansion of the research towards biomedical aspects is desirable. An established track record in interdisciplinary research as participant and lead should be available.
Teaching duties include participation in the core training in process engineering in the Bachelor's program "Mechanical Engineering", the Master's program "Chemical Engineering", as well as "Molecular and Applied Biotechnology".
A doctoral degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant/an associate/a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
