The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Freiburg invites applications for a
Full professor (W3) for internal medicine
with a speciality in cardiology (to succeed
Prof. Dr. Christoph Bode)
in the Department of Cardiology and Angiology to be filled by 1 April 2022.
The chosen candidate will represent the field of internal medicine with a speciality in
cardiology in research and teaching and will serve as director of the Department of
Cardiology and Angiology at the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen. The
University Heart Center was integrated into the Medical Center – University of Freiburg
on 1 April 2021.
The University Heart Center Freiburg Bad Krozingen has an excellent network of contacts
across Germany and a strong international reputation. The new professor in this
position will be responsible for further consolidating the University Heart Center’s national
and international position. One particular requirement is a high degree of adaptability,
allowing the chosen candidate to integrate into the Center in their role as a
leader, as well as the ability to drive integration and ensure that the currently separate
Departments of Cardiology and Angiology I and II at the Freiburg and Bad Krozingen
sites are successfully merged into a single department. Candidates must demonstrate
a collegial, interdisciplinary and innovative approach to their work, including in the use
of resources across different disciplines and sites.
In terms of clinical experience, they must be confident leaders with a mastery of the
entire breadth of cardiology, although the University Heart Center specialises in particular
in interventional measures. The newly appointed professor should also be able
to confidently treat complex coronary lesions and complicated structural heart disease.
They should uphold the University Heart Center’s focus on interventional cardiology
and its role as a centre of reference for this field in the state of Baden-Württemberg and
in large parts of Germany.
Candidates should also be able to demonstrate outstanding work in basic medical research.
The future holder of this position aims to build on existing research partnerships within
the scope of collaborative funding instruments, including the Collaborative Research
Centre 1425 (ScarCare), as well as cooperation within the cardiovascular disciplines and
the focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Freiburg.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment
regulations, the completion of a university degree in human medicine, educational
qualification, an outstanding dissertation, an excellent publication record and a
board certification (Facharztanerkennung) as an internal medicine physician and cardiologist.
Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz,
LHG).
The position is tenured according to § 50 para 1 LHG.
Reference is made to the regulations of § 49 para 2a LHG.
