The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Full Professor of Clinical Nuclear Medicine (salary group W3)
at the Department of Nuclear Medicine. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by April 1, 2025. The professor will also be appointed as Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. We are looking for an individual who has several years of management experience in both clinical and scientific areas and both the team and goal-oriented leadership skills required to manage a medical department. We expect the successful candidate to work closely with the neighboring disciplines of diagnostic imaging and other departments at Uniklinikum Erlangen (including rheumatology, endocrinology, oncology and cardiology), both in research and clinical fields (hybrid imaging and therapy methods).
Imaging and medical technology are an important research focus area at the Faculty of Medicine and other faculties of the University, and these fields have been significantly strengthened by strategic appointments in recent years. We wish to continue this positive development by appointing a professor with an outstanding research profile, suitable third-party funding and internationally recognized scientific achievements.
Furthermore, the professor will be expected to collaborate with the research networks (including NCT WERA and DZI), Collaborative Research Centers and Research Training Groups at the Faculty of Medicine, FAU and other clinical departments of Uniklinkum Erlangen.
The professor’s teaching obligation is based on the teaching obligation regulations for Bavarian universities (LUFV). Degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (BSc and MSc), Medical Process Management and, together with other faculties, Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology in partnership with other faculties. The professor will be expected to participate in teaching these degree programs.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of Nuclear Medicine.
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership, the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.
In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. FAU is a family-friendly employer and responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
