The Medical Faculty Mannheim is seeking to appoint a
W 3 ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP FOR FUNCTIONAL AND STEREOTACTIC NEUROSURGERY
at the Clinic for Neurosurgery (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Hänggi).
Based within in the Clinic of Neurosurgery, the successful candidate will be able to fully represent the field of functional and stereotactic neurosurgery in research and teaching. In the scientific arena an active contribution to one or more of the main research areas of the Medical Faculty is expected, in particular to the topic areas of translational neuroscience and medical technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in innovative joint research projects, and to strengthen the faculty through the acquisition of external funding for research. Close cooperation with local research institutes outside the university (e.g. German Cancer Research Center, Fraunhofer Institute, European Molecular Biology Laboratory) and Central Institute of Mental Health is particularly desired. A significant contribution to the teaching of neurosurgery within the MaReCuMplus medical degree program is also expected.
Applicants should have acquired a university degree, a doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements that in accordance with § 47 para 2 of the Landeshochschulgesetz should be demonstrated by a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated Junior professorship or comparable qualifications. An international reputation with outstanding achivements in the field of functional and stereotactic neurosurgery, as well as didactic competence is expected, together with cooperation and leadership abilities, commitment to the further development of the MaReCuMplus study program, and engagement in academic self-governance.
Based on appropriate qualifications and through agreement with the University Hospital Mannheim GmbH, the holder of the W 3 professorship is expected to participate in outpatient and inpatient care at the Clinic for Neurosurgery of the University Hospital Mannheim as senior physician (Oberarzt/Oberärztin).
In accordance with the endowment contract concluded with the University Hospital Mannheim GmbH, the position will be time-limited in the first instance until the retirement of the current C 3 Professor for Neurosurgery on the 31st of March 2020. The vacated position will then be used for the further employment of the W 3 Professor for Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery. Accordingly, the appointment of the professorship can be linked immediately to permanent civil servant status, should the necessary conditions be fulfilled.
