Endowed Chair (W2-analog)
for Paediatric Endocrinology
The Chair is supported by the Stifterverband and is initially for a 5-year term. During
the first 5 years the Chair will be financed by a grant from the pharmaceuticals
company Ferring Arzneimittel GmbH. Given a positive evaluation, the position can
become permanent. The successful candidate will take up the position at the beginning
of the summer semester 2017.
The university paediatric clinic has over 90 beds at the St. Josef Hospital site, including
a neonatal intensive care unit with 15 beds at the St. Elisabeth Hospital and treats
around 4,200 children as inpatients. In addition, approximately 35,000 children
are treated annually in the Accident and Emergency and the Special outpatient
departments. The clinic has its own outpatient department to carry out GCP-ICH based
clinical studies and is involved in the "Allergy Center Ruhr" (ACR) and the "Centre for
Rare Diseases" (CeSER).
Within the area of paediatric medicine, the main focus of the incumbent will be on
paediatric endocrinology and diabetology in hospital work, research, and teaching.
He/she will be expected to work very closely with the working groups here and with the
current research and development work of the faculty of medicine, in particular in the
areas neuroendocrinology, rare diseases and metabolic medicine.
Within the paediatric clinic, the professor appointed will take charge of the research
area paediatric endocrinology and diabetology. The aim is to strengthen research in
the area of paediatric endocrinology, in particular concerning the variations in sexual
development (intersexuality/gender dysphoria).
We are looking for a highly-qualified specialist with a comprehensive knowledge
of and experience in the diagnostics and treatment of children with endocrinal and
growth disorders. The candidate will be a specialist paediatrician with the additional
professional title of Specialist in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology and should
be distinguished on account of recognised scientific activity and clinical experience in
addition to having established experience in teaching.
A positively evaluated junior lectureship, a post-doctoral project or equivalent scientific
work, proven teaching skills, and a readiness to assume some responsibility for the
internal administration of the university are requirements for the post. In addition to an
excellent scientific background you will have the following core competences:
a willingness to carry out interdisciplinary work and apply networking
didactic skills at university level and a high level of commitment to teaching.
The interview and vetting process will be carried out by the Ruhr University Bochum in
conjunction with Bochum Catholic Hospital. The salary will be based on the "Marburger
Bund" tariff for university hospitals. Secondary employment and the right to charge for
his/her services privately are possible by special agreement. The incumbent is part of
the university in accordance with §9 (2) HG NRW.
