Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research GmbH – UFZ
Climate change-induced extreme events such as heat spells, heavy rainfall and flood events will continue to increase in the future. The Helmholtz Center for
Environmental Research - UFZ is investigating the expected massive impacts on ecosystems and the consequential economic costs within Germany and Europe. The
necessary prerequisites are high-resolution environmental system models running on high-performance computers and high-resolution in-situ and satellite remote
sensing observation data sets. The UFZ operates observatories and novel observation systems for this purpose (e.g.
TERENO or MOSES), infrastructure
platforms (e.g. CITEpro), and modeling platforms (e.g.
mHM or OGS).
This results in growing challenges for dealing with large volumes of high quality data. Organizing the long-term availability of this research data
and interfacing with research data platforms (e.g. NFDI or
EOSC) requires an advanced research data management
through the use of structured techniques in the collection, transmission, curation, integration, processing, and persistent storage of large amounts of data.
To strengthen research data management, we are looking for
4 employees (m/f/d) research data management

All positions are full time positions (39h/week) with a limited contract period of 2 years:
Organization and implementation of an in-house service offer for research data management (support for researchers, consultancy for researchers on handling research data and data publications, development of data management plans and data models, technical documentation)
Support of the information and data flow between different participants of the Data Life Cycle
Development, testing and implementation of complex workflows for porting scientific data to efficient storage and easier further processing or reuse
Development, testing and implementation of efficient curation procedures, quality assurance processes, metadata enrichment and identification assignments, and structuring and standardization of existing data (data models) to enable interoperability
Development, testing and implementation of data organization and maintenance of complex scientific data, including server administration, data management and persistent storage
Development, testing and implementation of application and information systems for the evaluation and visualization of complex data types and contextual relationships
Further development of the existing data management system into a data warehouse for research data, which is adaptable for various data models and which considers interfaces to internal systems as well as the use of innovative cloud technologies to connect with external platforms
Successfully completed degree (Bachelor, Master, Diploma, PhD) in IT, engineering, natural sciences or economics
Experience in handling complex data
Experience with a programming language (e.g. R, Scala, Python, C / C ++, Fortran, PHP)
Experience in working with databases (e.g. SQL, noSQL, cloud data storage)
