The International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political
Constitution of the Economy (IMPRS-SPCE), hosted by the Max Planck
Institute for the Study of Societies in conjunction with the University of
Cologne and the University of Duisburg-Essen, invites excellent candidates
to apply for up to eight
Doctoral Positions in Economic
Sociology and Political Economy
Research at the IMPRS-SPCE explores the relationship between the economy
and its social and political foundations. The graduate school features
a unique curriculum of core and elective courses, research methods, colloquia,
and summer conferences. Doctoral researchers take part in the
intellectual life of the Institute and the two universities and can spend
time at partner institutions abroad.
Candidates with a two-year master's degree or equivalent qualification in
political science, sociology, organization studies, or related fields are welcome
to apply. They are expected to have a strong interest in pursuing an
academic career. A joint German and French doctoral degree (cotutelle de
thèse) in partnership with Sciences Po, Paris, is possible.
