The National Gallery Prague invites applications for the position of Director of Collection of Art of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century (1800 - 1945)

The National Gallery Prague is seeking a communicative, structured personality with experience in managing a large team and strategic thinking, renowned specialist for the concrete period with international experience, with his or her own creative input to the presentation of permanent collections and to the application of current international concepts to temporary exhibitions.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Creation of basic conceptual materials on the development, scientific and research activities of the Collection
  • Implementation of the approved Collection concept
  • Creation of dramaturgy for temporary exhibition projects
  • Professional cooperation of the Collection at both domestic and international level
Qualification Requirements:
  • University degree in art history (Ph.D.) or a corresponding scientific qualification
  • Excellent knowledge of the arts of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, especially in the region of Central and Central-Eastern Europe
  • Minimum 5-year museum work experience
  • Significant scientific publications and/or curatorial activities of international relevance
  • Proficiency in English (C1 level) and at least one other world language (min. level B2), knowledge of Czech language of advantage
  • Strong personality with organizational and managerial skills
We offer:
  • Full-time position
  • 5 weeks of vacation, employee benefits (4 sick days, meal vouchers, further professional training, company mobile phone)
  • Attractive working environment in a prestigious museum and research institution and in a dynamic team
  • Job commencement date: fall 2018 or by agreement
First-round applications will include:
  • Cover letter in Czech or English
  • Concept of the development of the Collection activity in English
  • Draft of the temporary exhibition program for the next 2 years, including publications and public programs in English (min. 5 pages A4 format, i.e. 9000 characters incl. space)
  • CV in Czech or English
  • List of publishing, scientific and exhibition activities
  • Notarized copy of the highest level of the achieved degree certificate
