Director (m/f/x) of the Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is a scientific institute centrally located at the University of Bayreuth. As an interdisciplinary scientific institute, it focuses on botany, ecology, and biodiversity in teaching, research, and public education.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent scientific and administrative management of the Botanical Garden
  • Budgetary and personnel responsibility for approximately 35 employees
  • Involvement in teaching
  • Carrying out research projects, also in cooperation, particularly within the University
  • Implementation and further development of the Garden’s public education work
  • Networking with the Botanical Garden’s scientific community
  • Involvement in and cooperation with the “Freundeskreis ÖBG e.V.” support association

Your profile:

  • University degree with a doctorate, preferably in a subject area within the life sciences or earth sciences
  • Leadership skills and experience
  • Teaching and research experience
  • Organisational and social skills
  • Communication, teamwork, and cooperation skills
  • Initiative and willingness to take action
  • An understanding of project management
  • Experience in public education work would be an asset
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills
The employee will be hired in the career track of “Akademische Räte”; transfer is possible up to A 16. The age limit for an initial appointment as a civil servant is 45 years. If the requirements under civil service law are not met, a position pursuant to TV-L may also be considered.
